Woodland Christmas

Woodland Christmas

Besides the embroidery hoop ornaments and the mushrooms-everything else was already on hand.

Oh wait, except the greenery I borrowed from my Mom and Grandma.

Kinda of scaled down for us but it was fun just to get all the little trees with lights in them.

The kids even opted just to put a little tree in their bathroom with no ornaments just lights.

Snow claimed the Christmas blanket made by Grandma right away.

Accessories Christmas Tree

Yesterday it was
 Operation: Deck the Halls.

We spent the day over at my folks decorating their house for Christmas.

The kids were very helpful putting the tree together while Mom and I were rummaging through their house finding items for the tree.

Mom and I came up with the idea of doing an accessories tree last year while we were decorating.

Hats, purses, gloves, shoes, books, doilies, scarves, aprons, stockings, pearl necklaces, and parasols were used.

I brought over the black and white ribbon.
We used some red sparklers(the only thing that was from the Christmas boxes).
Fleur de lis, feathers, bow made by Mom, and parasol(precariously stuck in the tree by Moi) were the tree toppers.
Who said you need just one thing on top of the tree?

It really is spectacular in person.

Definitely one of a kind tree.

This was such a fun tree to put together, Mom and I were discussing what color theme we could do next year.

Today is

Operation: Deck Our Own Halls.

Kids are still in bed.
Fall decorations need to be put away.
We shall see how much our halls get decked today!

Woodland Christmas Crafts

Woodland Christmas
is our theme this year.

Drama Queen supplied the deer.

I made the tree out of a felted sweater, Styrofoam cone and straight pins.

The wood log was given to me by my Grandpa many years ago.

Gnome vases are for sale at my booths-
and

Our mushrooms are made out of  little wood candlesticks
(picked up at a garage sale this summer for 10 cents each).
Clay saucers(tiny ones) were found at Walmart for 10 cents each.

 Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Some new furniture in my booth!

Mr. Smith is my painter.

After being married for almost 20 years
(this March), we have learned our strengths and weaknesses.
Apparently my weakness is being a bad painter (at least that's what he says).

So I let him paint without my help.

Ok, I may occasionally go out into the garage and check on him.
Maybe throw him the occasional cookie or snack.

Mr. Smith does ask my opinion on the paint color.
Sometimes I throw caution to the wind and come up with some unusual color/furniture combos.  Mr. Smith thinks this is a strength of mine (picking out furniture colors).

So we are adding pops of color to our booth.

I also wanted some things painted grey.

I convinced Mr. Smith to buy a can of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paris Grey.
Needless to say he fell in love.
With the paint....I wouldn't know how great it is because he wouldn't let me paint anything (not complaining at all).
But I trust his opinion on paint.
He just let me pick out the next few colors (like the Barcelona Orange) when he got over the price of the paint.

He even painted a couple of chairs and recovered the seat in canvas drop cloth.

Next we had a fun curvy dresser that needed some attention.
I thought it would look really good with the union jack painted on it-see so many on blogs and thought we should try it out.
Mr. Smith said he would give it a try.
We had a buyer before he even started painting.

Mr. Smith is still working on it.
I think it is turning out smashing!
Oh, yeah the buyer lives pretty close-like in the same house.
Our son, Boy Wonder decided that he wanted it in his room (he smiled and said it in a half excited voice).
Now he is a teenager and is at the point of his life where he doesn't like anything.
So when he said he wanted it (in a very nice way) he was going to get it.
Plus it works right into his bedroom redo for this summer(needed to update his room since he will be going to high school in the fall).

Oh and the best news is ..... we have another dresser that Mr. Smith will be painting the union jack on to sell!
He is already talking about how he can improve on the second one.

Yep, I'm okay with my weaknesses....

Happy Holidays from The Smith Hotel! White Christmas Home Tour

Welcome!

White Christmas is the theme this year!

Boy Wonder really wanted a White Christmas.

Next year Drama Queen wants a colorful Christmas.

Mr. Smith tried to talk the kids out of a tree this year but we almost had a full scale RIOT on our hands!

We now have white lights on the house too!

Added a little tinsel tree for a festive look.

Need a little sign for my hook by the front door.  I made a large shipping tag sign out of creme paper and some glitter letters(had to be creative with the wording-working with the letters I had left).

Mr.Smith's folks gave us a nativity set.
Fits perfect on a small silver tray.

Boy Wonder putting the star on top of the tree this year!

Was going to put branches in the tree like we did at my folk's house but before decorating our tree both kids boldly told me no branches were going in our tree.

So I just used them on the fireplace mantle instead!

Just couldn't bring myself to take everything off the tv cabinet after Halloween so I just added to it!

Happy Holidays!
